The SUAVE` Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Samuel Dinkins, III was organized in the fall of 1990. The Ensemble features students, ages 10- 18 years old, of the DDC School of Music, a division of the Dinky Drum Company, LLC. The students perform music from the African & Afro-Caribbean experience, Classical Percussion Ensemble literature and Contemporary music. The Ensemble has performed at a variety of events since its inception. They include: The Community Music Center of Houston’s annual Fall and Spring recitals, The Windsor Village U.M.C. Boy’s Right’s of Passage Ceremonies, The Brentwood Baptist Church Youth Black History Program, The Iri-Ji Annual Nigerian Festival, The Children’s Museum of Houston, The S.H.A.P.E. Community Center, the Houston Children’s Festival and a host of other events in the Greater Houston Metropolitan area. In 1995 The SUAVE` Percussion Ensemble was one of the featured youth group’s on Channel 13's weekly television show "Crossroads", Hosted by Regina Hall. This episode was in celebration of the Juneteenth Holiday. The Ensemble is a featured performer in the DDC School of Music Annual Spring Recitals.
